The UV Sonnar 4.3/105mm made for the NASA once by Zeiss for the Apollo Moon Missions in almost mint condition plus the very rare Zeiss (Schott) UG11 UV transmitting filter. The series production was only 73 lenses in the early C version. The later CF version is equally rare with a total of 92 lenses built according to Hartmut Thiele, „ Fabrikationsbuch Photooptik III Carl Zeiss Oberkochen. The offered lens is before the official „Muster“ (prototype) serial number Nr. 2599308 from 1982 (listed in the Thiele book) and could well indicate an earlier production sample or prototype. A lot of Carl Zeiss prototype lenses are in the 2.596.xxx serial number range recorded. See the scan attached! All numbers with „Muster“ next to them are prototypes ! The lens comes protected in it’s original Hasselblad plastic case, front cap and original maker’s box (almost never included), Filter in plastic box. Description from Carl Zeiss: The 105mm UV-Sonnar f/4.3 lens is a special design consisting of fluorite and quartz elements with excellent light transmission in the ultraviolet region of the spectrum. The lens also features extensive chromatic correction both to the ultraviolet and the visible ranges and is therefore suitable to use in both these ranges. The UV-Sonnar lens features high image quality and superb distortion correction throughout the wide range tram UV to VIS. In UV photography, focusing can be performed using visible light without the need to further adjustment. Fields of application include technical and scientific photography, such as studies of textiles, printing forgeries and all types of material examination. A field of special interest is extraterrestrial UV photography.
