The camera is an exact copy of the Robot camera. In fact I do believe the factory used the chassis of some Robot cameras and modified them especially for their use. The top plate, knobs, covering, LENS MOUNT with a different thread than Robot lenses and cameras and the special black tube (exact purpose unknown) is all GOMZ factory made. There are 5 other cameras known to exist. Camera number 490065 and 490066 are in exactly the same finish. Camera 49066 comes also with one part of this special lens tube (image attached). Another version is a chrome camera number 490006 with a special GOI I-22 lens. Another camera is known in chrome finish without serial number engraving. This is a an early Soviet attempt to create what later became known as the Ayaks / Ajax camera. This camera was mentioned in literature as a base model for Ayaks line but no one had seen a Soviet version of an actual German Robot camera before. This camera sports USSR Army markings and serial number dates it to 1949. Also attached please find a scan of a Russian camera collectors magazine and an image of a binoculars with the same hammer and sickle engravings. Also the FED TSVVS is with hammer and sickle engraving! But not many other photographic products were. In short, this article says that while GOMZ was evacuated to Kazan during the war, a lot of different German technology was brought there, so the Soviet version of the Robot was developed in limited quantities. But the author of the article still does not know what these cameras were developed for, whether it was spy or military application like connecting to military equipment. And that it was based on the Robot Luftwaffe camera. The camera was made to be equipped with GOI I-22 lens developed in 1945. Also mentioned a version of this camera without the serial number and lens, but according to the author the leather case has a front lens compartment that seemingly made for the GOI I-22 lens, and the overall construction of the leather case is very similar to what GOMZ made for the Sport SLR camera. GOI was the main manufacturer of the most prototypes in Russia which have then been produced by various Russian companies such as FED, Kiev, Zenit, LZOS, etc. In short this is a limited series made for unknown purpose by GOMZ in 1949. It carries the New York Spy camera museum inventory sticker.
