Beautifully preserved Leica IIId from the second series, with red shutter curtain. With Summitar 5 cm f/2 No. 523194. The optics with haze corresponding to the age. The entry in the Leitz delivery book is dated October 1944 and reads “Jap. Marine Bln. T Gart.”. Tiergarten (Zoo) is the name of a district of Berlin, where the Japanese Embassy was located in 1944. A delivery to the Japanese Military (Navy in this case) was only possible if it went through the embassy at that stage of the war. A historically very interesting, rare constellation.
Provenance: Allen Collection.
