This 1 x 1 ¾ inch sliding box camera for daguerreotype photography, dates from around 1865. It has a brass locking screw and features a lacquered, brass Petzval-type lens with focusing by rack and pinion. It is possible that the camera was made for use by travelling salesmen, altough its real history remains unclear. Provenance: Christie's, London South Kensington, December 9th 1991, Lot 22.
