First version (chrome dial) in top condition, no parts replaced or refurbished. With very rare ALL-BLACK Nippon Kogaku Japan Nikkor-S.C 1:1.4/5 cm No. 365394, black paint lens cap and black paint lens hood in brown leather case. This Black S2 is the earlier "Chrome Dial" S2. The focusing scale is all chrome as shown here. The shutter speed dial is painted all black, without a chrome rim that the "Black Dial" versions have. Although a very limited number of very late chrome Dial S2's may have left the factory with one of the later black & chrome 50 Nikkors, practically all of the Chrome Dial S2's were produced when Nikon's standard 50 lenses were ALL chrome. This presented an esthetic problem for the black bodies so Nikon made a limited number of ALL-BLACK 5 cm f/1.4 lenses just for the black paint S2 "Chrome Dial" bodies. Predictably, many of the original ALL black 50/1.4's were separated from their original cameras over the years. Literature: Robert Rotoloni, „The complete Nikon Rangefinder System“, p. 104 (exactly this camera is shown – the lens is shown on page 257 & 258). Provenance: Robert Rotoloni collection.
